Vodafone and Microsoft have built on existing collaborations to offer a set of business communications offerings, initially for Germany and Spain. Microsoft Online Services will extend to other territories before mid-year and is already offering thise through partners in the US
The agreement involves Vodafone offering bundled fixed and mobile voice and data services, complete with customer equipment and handsets. It is targeting both large and small companies. The offerings will be hosted by Microsoft and will be based on its key enterprise comms and collaboration platforms - Exchange for email; SharePoint for collaboration; Office Communications for instant messaging and presence; and Live Meeting for web conferencing and videoconferencing.
This is playing to Microsoft's strengths in the mobile enterprise space and should boost Vodafone's limited success in penetrating more deeply into large company communications strategies. Packaging all these features together should enable businesses to save costs while giving both the suppliers a stronger foothold in their fixed and mobile operations. In the future, Vodafone will add its Voice Services and Virtual PBX capabilities.
Vodafone will sell these services in its main markets, initially Germany and Spain. The companies did not disclose financial or contractual terms.
