Specifically, Motorola is announcing the WTM1100, a WiMAX network adapter that operates in the 2.5GHz or 3.5GHz bands; and the HTM1000, an HSPA/ EDGE/GPRS adapter that supports 10.1Mbps downlink. Both should be in notebooks and netbooks by year end the firm says. The LTM1000, a module developed for LTE networks, will offer download speeds up to 100Mbps and upload speeds up to 50Mbps, it added, and will be available for device and network sampling by year end. No manufacturers or partners have yet been announced. Koerper said that, while many module makers, such as Sierra, buy chips from Qualcomm, Motorola will use all its own technology - marking something of a return to the chip design roots largely lost when it spun off what became Freescale (also very interested in the module space).
