Nokia keeps smartbook options open and readies ODM launches

The WSJ's informers, who claim to have seen early prototypes, said it looks like a slightly larger iPod Touch, and does not, as yet, include a cellular connection. It could be launched before year end. Since Dell has been working on a variety of Android projects, including conventional netbooks, the Google OS is hotly tipped to be used in this new product too, as well as an ARM-based processor. Dell has not previously created a purely ARM/Linux product, though it has a dual-mode PC that runs this architecture alongside Wintel.
Earlier this year, Dell appointed Ain McKendrick to be general manager of mobile internet devices with a remit to look at "future products in play for future consideration".
