Toshiba is also launching a website to support the TG01, supporting its integrated marketing campaign, which signals a serious intent to get accepted as a mainstream phone brand. The pan-European site, developed by agency E3, claims to be geared to 'aspirational' young mobile web users, and contains 'to-scale' video content with play, pause and volume controls. The site also includes an image gallery, accessories section and handset specification. The site is due to launch on 15 June.

If the WinMo OS of the TG01 is a deterrent for some, an Android version is promised for the fall buying season. And Sony Ericsson is making a similar migration from Windows to the Google-backed OS, it seems. It will launch a new phone in the fall under its Xperia brand, which currently contains just one phone, SEMC's sole WinMo offering, the X1. The firm recently admitted to poor results from X1 and branded it an "experiment", and it seems the 'X2' will run Android, plus the Qualcomm Snapdragon. This has mainly been targeted at mobile internet devices, so its turning up in handsets suggests Qualcomm has succeeded in its aim of driving a 1GHz processor down to the low power levels required by a handset.

Leaked details of the 'X2', codenamed Rachael have appeared on a Danish web site, mobile.nu. It will feature the Snapdragon QSD8250 processor, 4-inch touchscreen and 7.2Mbps HSPA, plus 8.1-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, 3.5mm headphone jack and miniUSB port. It will run the upcoming Android 2.0 - SEMC has said it will wait until this is ready to release its first device with the OS, because 2.0 will have better video support. SEMC is said to be partnering with Foxconn in Taiwan for the manufacture, and possible Orange for the European launch late in the third quarter. However, SEMC executives have made clear that this date will be flexible, depending on extensive testing of a new user interface.
