Friedman will stay in place until a replacement is found, and said in a statement: "I believe it is an appropriate time to introduce new leadership to take the company to the next level. For me, it's time to take a break, reconnect with my family, and pursue other business and personal interests."
For its second quarter, Alvarion reported a net loss of $4m or six cents per share, higher than the year-ago loss of $810,000. On a non-GAAP basis, the loss was $600,000, reversing net income of $1.7m a year earlier. Total revenues were $58.7m, down 16% from $69.7m a year ago and 13% on Q109. WiMAX revenue rose by 18% to $44.9m, to a high of almost 77% of the company's total. The sales figure was better than analysts' consensus expectations of $58.23m.
For the current third quarter, Alvarion projects GAAP loss per share of between two and nine cents, on revenue of between $53m and $63m. Analysts expect performance to improve through the rest of the year, and to see Alvarion breaking even during the second half.
