European telcos look to new markets for hard-won growth

The French telco warned of a tough second half as new regulations hit revenues but maintained its full year cashflow target. However,"excluding regulatory impacts, revenue should still outperform GDP growth trends", said CFO Gervais Pellissier.

In the UK, British Telecom suffered a huge 57% in second quarter earnings to £214m ($354.6m), on revenues up just 1% year-on-year to £5.23bn ($8.7bn) during the period. Its main glimmer of hope came from its BT Global Services division, which saw a 4% revenue hike to £2bn.
