The X10 beats the Droid to the gigahertz processor - most of the early 1GHz phones have run Windows Mobile though vendors like Toshiba and HTC plan Android/gigahertz combinations over the next few months. SEMC is using the leading gigahertz smartphone processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon, which is expected to seize a strong share of the top end superphone space next year, even as most high performance phones still run processors like Qualcomm MSMxx or TI OMAP at 500MHz-600MHz.
In hardware terms, SEMC generally beats most of the open OS competition, and pitches X10 against the proprietary superphones like Samsung Jet. It has an 8.1-megapixel camera (Droid has 5-mp) with video recording and 16x digital zoom. Other features include 4-inch capacitive touchscreen at 854 x 480 resolution; 1Gb of internal memory with 8Gb microSD included; GPS, Wi-Fi, stereo Bluetooth, quad-band GSM and HSPA 900/1700/2100 or 800/1900/2100). No pricing or release date yet and no hint of non-European carrier deals.
