China Telecom in Alcatel-Lucent IMS Shanghai deployment

Mobile World Congress Barcelona, February 15, 2010 - Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that it has been selected by China Telecom to deploy IMS trial networks in Shanghai and Shandong province. Alcatel-Lucent's end-to-end IMS solution will enable China Telecom to build a next generation core infrastructure in order to evolve its network and to provide advanced multimedia services. With the two wins which were secured through Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, Alcatel-Lucent's flagship company in China, Alcatel-Lucent has become the sole supplier of IMS solutions to Shandong Telecom, and a major supplier to Shanghai Telecom for Shanghai Expo 2010.

To satisfy the highly demanding telecom services at Shanghai Expo 2010, Shanghai Telecom has selected Alcatel-Lucent to customize many of its innovative applications, in particular, video services, including EV-DO video call, video share, video customer service, multimedia ringback tone and click to dial. The project will serve as a benchmark for China Telecom in Southern China in deploying IMS solutions for value added services

Liu Ping, the General Manager of Shandong Telecom commented, "The reason why we chose Alcatel-Lucent as our partner in this trial, is because we can leverage Alcatel-Lucent's strong and localized IMS R&D team to develop and customize the data and video services and featured industry applications to meet the requirement of Shandong telecom market. We believe our cooperation with Alcatel-Lucent is a Win-Win partnership, and will help us take the leading position in the new 3G service market."

Alcatel-Lucent will provide its industry-leading IMS solution to enable rich and unified communication, Web 2.0, Rich Communication Suite, and video and telephony services. In addition to traditional VoIP, enablers and applications such as presence, network address book, fixed/mobile convergence support, multimedia instant messaging (including SMS, text and video), softphone/PC client and video and file share extend service offerings into the Internet domain.
