Chambers set out the vision for what a souped-up internet can achieve - video embedded in every aspect of life; improved healthcare and education; new methods of customer communication; enhanced progress for collaboration and virtualization. He said Cisco was moving from being "just the plumber of the internet" to being a business partner and consultant on how to exploit new technologies. Though, as he said in a recent interview with McKinsey, "you make a lot of money doing plumbing on the internet". And with the CRS-3 headlining the day, Cisco is not straying too far from its core expertise.
