A teaser page launched by T-Mobile has sparked rumours that a mystery phone, the first HSPA+ handset from the carrier, could be the Vanguard, also known as the G1 Blaze.

The wheels of the rumour mill started turning when someone checked the source code of the teaser website to find that it mentioned the Vanguard in a line of code. Whether this was an accidental leak or purely a mistake the line of code has now been changed to "hspa" rather than "vanguard".

The blank place-holder image on the site which currently looks like a bar of white soap has people speculating that the phone, whatever it may turn out to be, will not feature a slide out keyboard, based on the thin white silhouette.

While the reference to Vanguard in the code has been removed the meta tags still bear the keywords "HSPA +, Smartphone, G1" and the line "Get news on the first HSPA + smartphone from T-Mobile and the latest smartphone in the G series." This does suggest that the handset is in fact the Vanguard - aka G1 aka the HTC Vision. Little is known about the HTC Vision except that it is rumoured to have a 3.7 inch screen, 1GHz processor and Android 2.1. It is also rumoured to have a slideout keyboard, which means the image on the teaser site is a red herring unless the form factor is to change before its release. There's nothing else to be gleaned from the page unless you register for updates on the elusive handset.

The handset will be T-Mobile's first to use HSPA+, an upgrade from traditional 3G which supports substantially faster internet connections. T-Mobile plan to bring HSPA+ to 100 metropolitan cities by the end of this year.
