ALU sticks to turnaround pledge despite big Q2 loss
Component shortages and Asian weakness hit figures but north America strong

ALU said sales were also hit by a decline of 3% to 4% in its networks segment, particularly in wireline products. This was a factor that depressed some analysts, including Pierre Ferragu at Bernstein. Although Verwaayen has promised to return ALU to profit this year after a long string of losses, Ferragu commented in a client note that ALU was declining in wireline and weak in wireless. "This remains too fragile a turnaround story to make a strong investment case, in our view," he wrote.
