A leaked simulator for the BlackBerry 9670 is the source of new specs and information on the rumoured clamshell. While still not official the Dev tool has revealed much about what can be expected from the top-heavy handset, the most striking feature of which is its design. With an interior screen as big as the full QWERTY below it the 9670 also features an exterior screen which may or may not be a touchscreen.
What the simulator reveals is that the curious clamshell will feature 4GB of storage, 512MB of RAM a 5MP camera and it will be running BlackBerry OS 6.0. It seems unlikely either screen will be a touchscreen, though the resolution of the internal display is known to be 360x480 pixels. Evidence to the contrary would be that OS 6.0 features touchscreen support with features like multitouch and pinch to zoom.
Rumours of a BlackBerry clamshell (aside from the Pearl which doesn't feature a full keyboard) have been around since 2008, and the leak of the simulator for the phone is a good sign though simulators aren't always official. The original leak for the software has since been plugged, where it was available on several file sharing sites.

While the design is unusual it's not completely unattractive and should appeal to BlackBerry users who have been yearning for a clamshell. Leaked photos of the handset do vary, with the main difference being the size of the screen and a glossy case as opposed to a matte one. If it does feature OS 6.0 it will benefit from an improved homescreen design though most of the other key features of the improved OS are aimed at touchscreens to give an iPhone-like experience.
It has been suggested that the 9670 will be released under the name Oxford, a release date and pricing are still unknown.
