A new teaser site for the the Samsung Galaxy Tab has launched today tempting those anticipating the tablet with a date and a location. The date is September 2, the location Berlin. This is the day before IFA begins, and comes not long after the rumour that the Toshiba SmartPad will be launched around this time to. This however is a definite though the site doesn't give much away featuring an eerie video with brief glimpses of the device played on a loop.
The device will feature a 7" screen, a tad smaller than the iPad, running at a possible resolution of 1024x600. Rumoured specs include a 3.2mp camera, the necessary front facing camera to differentiate it from the iPad, GPS and it could be 3G compatible. There's also said to be an impressive e-reader app on the tablet though of course users could install Kindle if they prefer. Apart from that it is expected to feature a fairly standard 1GHz ARM processor.
There's little to be gleaned in the way of specs from the video but key words that are visible on-screen include "HD Movie Play", "Video Call" and perhaps most importantly "Android 2.2". Also apparent from the video is that the device will feature a SWYPE keyboard. The features may be nothing special but it hasn't stopped the teaser creating a noticeable wave of excitement in the blogging community.
Carriers have yet to be confirmed though in the US it is expected to be carried by Verizon, and Vodafone in the UK. A recent video where a member of the public caught a Samsung employee using the device on a train in Australia shows the UI to be very responsive suggesting it that it might be a different processor to the Samsung Galaxy S.
