The news about the Samsung Galaxy Tab last week was the preview site, now it's the real thing. The teaser site gave away a few tantalising details but today the device has officially launched at the IFA and the full specs are available to pore over, as well as new photos.

A glance at the photos with the Tab's white back instantly brings to mind Apple devices, but it seems with most tablets the form factor doesn't fall very far from that tree. Looks aside, the device is in that mid-zone between tablet and smartphone and does have a few things going for it.

We already knew that it would feature a 7" screen, run Android 2.2 and have a 3mp camera, but its internal hardware was a mystery. The processor has been revealed to be an ARM Cortex A8 1GHz processor supported by a PowerVR SGX540 graphics chip. The 3mp camera on the back is average but more impressively it features a 1.3mp front facing camera, much better than the VGA resolution that most tablets with a front facing camera are boasting. Another tick in the pro column is the internal storage, yes it does come with the unsurprising option of 16GB or 32GB of internal memory but it is expandable through a MicroSD slot up to a possible 64GB.

It may not be an Apple device but it has the Android equivalent of iTunes and the App Store with Music Hub and Android Marketplace. In addition the device it will feature office document compatibility and a PC like email client allowing users to work on the go which will be possible with a reported 7 hours of battery life.

When it comes to wireless connectivity it is compatible with Wi-Fi and 3G. While there's still be no announcement on who will carry the device in the US but the rumours still have it that it will come to Verizon.

In Europe and other worldwide markets Vodafone will be selling the tablet starting in October, it will be available in US later in the year.
