The rumour mills are whirling with a speculated launch date and spec sheet for HTC's successor to the HD2. The phone which could launch as the HD7 (rather than the HD3 which would follow on numerically from the HD2) looks like it will be launched next week at a HTC event in London. The device will be released in October and will bear the moniker HD7 based on the fact that it will be running Windows Mobile 7.
If another leaked document is to be taken as the truth then the hardware that the HD7 has inside will be truly spectacular, no exaggeration. A seat might need to be taken when it's revealed that the handset could well feature a 1.5GHz processor, add to that an enormous 1GB of RAM and it might be time to get the smelling salts out. The cherry on top of the cake is a 4.5" AMOLED screen with a 1280 x 800 resolution. It all a sounds a bit to good to be true, with specs that rival your average netbook in a device that is supposedly 10mm thick.
The name HD7 comes from an internal memo from UK carrier O2, the supposed spec sheet from a less reliable source. If it were true it means the HD7 could be something really special, not only blowing many other smartphones out of the water, but seriously boosting the popularity of Windows Phone 7 as well.
Also expected to be launched at the event and more believably is the HTC Desire HD, which would feature a 1GHz processor, 4.3" screen and Android 2.2.
