MetroPCS' LTE network has been around for a few months now and will soon have a handset to finally take advantage of its 4G speeds, the Samsung Forte. Up until now the only 4G phone Metro PCS has had to offer is the less than impressive Samsung Craft, but if rumours of the Forte are true then it will make the carrier's hardware line-up much more interesting. There's even the suggestion that it could be a Galaxy S handset, just to add to the bundle of Galaxy S rumours that have emerged already this week.
The internal hardware is definitely reminiscent of a Galaxy S device and it said that the Forte will feature a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 5mp camera and a slideout QWERTY keyboard. It also seems like it will be shipping with Android 2.2.
It is similar to another device known as the R910, recently revealed to be on its way to MetroPCS but sources say that they are different and that there are two LTE devices headed for the carrier. It's possible that it could be two variants of the same model, one with and the other without a keyboard.
With a 3.3" screen, 3.2mp camera and less than 200MB of internal storage the Craft was one of the first 4G phones to be released in America but not surprisingly failed to make an impact. Though it might fall outside the big four carriers in the US, whether it's a Galaxy S handset or not, the arrival of the the Forte could point towards a good year for MetroPCS.
It won't be long before the identity of the phone is cleared up as the Samsung Forte is expected to be released February 11 and could cost between $329 and $399.
