Verizon's last Palm Pre handset, the Pixi Plus, disappeared off the carrier's website over the weekend suggesting that a replacement will be released soon. The replacement would most likely be the Palm Pre 2, which appeared on HP's website SIM free late last year with no indication of when it would be available on a contract from Verizon. Already available form carriers in Europe the phone will be the first of several promised WebOS handsets from the HP owned Palm this year though it has failed to make much of an impression yet.
The internal specs are reasonable with a 1GHz processor and 16GB of internal storage and a 5mp camera. The screen is smaller than most high-end devices out there at 3.1" but it does slide up at an angle to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. Not badly spec'd but perhaps not impressive enough to warrant the $449.99 price tag that the handset goes for SIM-free.
The Pre 2 runs WebOS 2.0 and will be on of several devices this year to use the platform, with upgrades planned for older Palm handsets.
Of course nothing is certain at this point and other replacements are possible such as a direct successor to the Pixi Plus as a recent leaked picture showed a Pixi handset with a front facing camera. AT&T and Sprint are still stocking their Pixi models.

If the replacement isn't released soon, and the Pre 2 is subject to further delays, then it could be a blow to Palm as the handset has already failed to cause a stir in Europe attracting little attention from carriers. A clearer picture may develop next month of the phone's status as there is a big HP press even scheduled where more details of its tablet and handset plans are expected to be revealed.
