Nokia T7-00 spotted in the wild, not a tablet

Looks like a downgraded N8 aimed at the Chinese market

A device known as the Nokia T7-00 was leaked last week leading some to speculate that the T indicated it was going to be a tablet. In pictures that have hit the internet this week it is clear that this is not the case and the T7-00 appears to be very similar in appearance to Nokia N8 handset. As well its appearance the internal specs will also seem quite familiar but on the whole it looks to be a downgraded version of the N8. The images suggest that it is being targeted specifically at the Chinese market though a global launch wouldn't be unlikely.

Inside there's a 700MHz ARM 11 processor, an 8mp rear-facing camera, VGA webcam for video calling and a display somewhere between 3.5 - 4" with a resolution of 360x640. The handset will be running Symbian^3 with an internal radio that will offer connectivity on China's TD-SCDMA and GSM bands. It has also been said that the T7-00 is a little thicker than the N8.

Compared to the N8 there's a slight improvement in terms of its processing power as the previous handset featured a 680MHz chip but it will find itself with an 8mp rather 12mp camera which was one of the N8's star features.

With enthusiasm for Symbian rapidly dimming and an increasing number of dual-core devices, as well as plenty of 1GHz+ single-core devices, being released if this device did hit any other markets it's hard to see it making much of a stir. Even with the slight improvement in the processor's clock speed it's not enough to make it a more tempting offering than the N8 was.

Hopefully next year will see some more interesting devices from the Finnish phone maker when it releases its Windows Phone 7 handsets. Until then it looks like Nokia fans will just have variations on the N8 to look forward to.
