Little has been known for certain about the Droid 3 but the handset has officially been announced in China under its international branding the Milestone 3. The phone will offer 3G connectivity and it looks like it will stay this way when it reaches the US as other recent Droid renewals have decided not to opt for 4G connectivity.
As expected key features of the device include a 4" qHD display, dual-core processor which is said to offer 27% faster multitasking than the previous model and a five-row slideout QWERTY keyboard. On the back is an 8mp camera that can capture 1080p HD video and on the front a VGA camera for video-calling. Other confirmed features include 16GB of internal storage, world phone status and Android 2.3. Whether the processor is an Nvidia or an OMAP chip still isn't known but either way it looks its going to be a fast handset.
The handset offers some noticeable improvements over its predecessor including a bigger screen, higher resolution camera and a dual-core processor. It also features an expanded keyboard with an extra row just for numbers, speeding up messaging as now users won't have to keep pressing the alt key. The Droid 3 is a worthy addition to Droid line and will leave some disappointed that it won't feature 4G connectivity.

There are no definite details on a release date or pricing but the phone is said to be heading to China this summer. It seems unusual that a Milestone handset gets announced before a Droid although it's possible it will launch in the US before it reaches china. Rumours suggest that the device will be released in the US July 7, so there's a good chance Verizon will release the phone before it hits China, providing there are no delays that is.
