German consumers denied Nokia first and last MeeGo device

READ MORE: US | Nokia | Handset | MeeGo

Things are looking even more bleak for Nokia fans hoping to get their hands on the company's one and only MeeGo handset as it has been revealed that the N9 won't be released in Germany. This follows on from the news earlier in the week that the handset would not be released in the US or the UK. The latest news comes from mobiflip.de which has received word from Nokia that it will not go on sale in Germany through official channels, it will however be available in Austria and Switzerland.

For those who do manage to get this handset which is destined to be an anomaly in smartphone history they will be able to enjoy a 3.7" display, 1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM. It will also be available with a choice of 16GB or 32GB of internal storage and has an 8mp camera with a Carl Zeiss lens on the back.

Currently there are more places where it is known the phone won't be released than there are that it will. Given the major markets where it won't be released it's puzzling why Nokia is bothering to release it at all after the many months of doubt if it would ever be make it into the hands of consumers. For anyone who isn't bothered about MeeGo and just want to get their hands on a well spec'd Nokia handset then the Sea Ray is just around the corner which will be similarly spec'd to the N9 and running Windows Phone 7.

It has been revealed that there are unofficial channels in the UK and Sweden which will be offering the phone, though it looks like it may come at a premium. Both Katshing in Sweden and Expansys in the UK are offering the phone for pre-order though the latter has not yet posted a price suggesting that this it won't come cheap due to its increasing rarity before it has even been released.
