For Nokia fans not bothered about the Finnish phone maker's upcoming Windows Phone devices it has revealed a new Symbian Belle handset in the form of the 603. The affordable smartphone comes in a choice of bright colours and is surprisingly well spec'd. The phone is one of four running the platform, the others being the 600, 700 and 701 and all will offer support for NFC. Like the other three Belle handsets it has been announced earlier than anticipated, but is a welcome addition to Nokia's line up of non-Windows Phones.
With a 3.5" display offering a 640x360 resolution the 603 comes packed with a 1GHz processor, 2GB of internal storage and a rear-facing 5mp camera that can record 720p HD video at 30fps. A microSD card slot allows memory to be expanded by up to 32GB and it comes pre-loaded with key apps including Nokia Maps and the NFC game Angry Birds magic.
"Whatever the price-point, our aim is to ensure all Nokia smartphones are crafted for use, have Nokia's trusted quality, are better connected, and contain unexpected surprises like the ability to tap to pair and share with NFC" said Tuula Rytila from Nokia.
Tagging along in the announcement of the 603 is a new accessory, the Luna Blutooth headset which is NFC compatible and delivers eight hours of extended talk time. It can be charged via a cradle that uses a standard Nokia microUSB charging lead and is available in a range of colours. The headset will cost €69 ($94).
The announcement doesn't come with any indication of exactly when or where the 603 will be released but it should go on sale sometime in Q4. At €200 ($274) its looks quite reasonably priced for its set of features and should help Nokia to claw back some market share.

With Nokia poised to make its first Windows Phones official the quartet of Symbian smartphones is unlikely to steal any of its thunder but look like appealing devices for first time smartphone users and Symbian fans.
