US cellcos all weigh their LTE options

A Dish-AT&T deal, including cross-selling, could mirror the partnership between Verizon Wireless and cablecos, King added. Under AT&T, Dish could continue to operate its satellite-TV business, while saving on programming costs by consolidating with AT&T's IPTV service U-verse.
Also waiting for US regulatory approval is LightSquared, and to add to the problems it faces with GPS interference, the wholesale LTE/satellite start-up may be running out of money, according to Reuters. Although the firm continues to sign customers - it now has 33 firms which wish to use its network for retail or embedded wireless offerings - its build-out, and its network sharing deal with Sprint, cannot proceed unless the FCC deems that its signals will be safe for GPS services. As it waits for the decision, the firm earned only $30m during the first nine months of this year, according to the news report, and registered a $427m net loss on that sum. It could run out of money as soon as the second quarter of 2012, say Reuters reporters who accessed its financial statement. "There is a need to raise substantial capital beyond the beginning of the second quarter of 2012 in order to have sufficient liquidity," that document reportedly says.
