After numerous rumours of a December release before it became clear that the device was delayed Verizon has taken the covers off of the Droid 4 this week. The long awaited phone is basically a RAZR with a slideout keyboard and packs some similar but still fairly impressive specs. As well as this an updated version of the RAZR, the RAZR MAXX, was also launched both offering 4G LTE connectivity on Verizon's network.
The specs have been well known for a while now and the Droid 4 features a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and a 4" display. There's also a rear-facing 8mp camera, front-facing camera and 16GB of internal storage. The thing which distinguishes it from the RAZR is its slideout keyboard which offers five rows and is backlit.
It might not be thinnest device out there with the extra weight of its keyboard but that hasn't stopped it from being marketed as the "thinnest and most powerful 4G LTE QWERTY smartphone". Unfortunately it will disappoint anyone hoping for it to be released with Ice Cream Sandwich installed as it's set to come with Android 2.3, with an update to 4.0 to follow.
As for the RAZR MAXX nothing much has changed from the original handset except for one particular spec - the battery life. While it remains to be seen how long it will stay charged in the hands of the public Verizon claims that device will now last for an impressive 21 hours of talk time and manages to be just 2mm thicker.

There's no word on exactly when the duo of Droids will be released only that they'll be available in the "coming weeks". A price for the Droid 4 has not been announced but its likely to land with a $299.99 tag with a commitment. It has been confirmed that the RAZR MAXX is going to sell for $299.99 on a contract, $100 more than the regular RAZR.
