Quad-core handset by Casio may be headed to Verizon

Several devices by the company better known for its watches spotted in focus group

According to one reader of Droid Life who recently spent some time in a focus group Verizon and Casio are planning to team up again for a well spec'd if slightly mysterious handset. The last time the carrier and calculator maker got together the result was the G'Zone, a ruggedised device which was lacking slightly in the hardware department. The new device appears to be a more promising offering for general smartphone users rather than outdoor enthusiasts looking for a tough handset.

An impressive roster of specs starts with a quad-core processor and also includes a super AMOLED display which could measure up to 4.7" as well as 4G LTE connectivity. Also making the list is rear-facing 8mp camera, front-facing 2mp camera and a 2000mAh battery. It all sounds pretty impressive for a Casio handset and the device will be another to offer Ice Cream Sandwich not to mention NFC connectivity.

As well as the nameless but well spec'd device there were several other handsets on show according to the source, these included a number of clamshell devices and a new version of last year's G'Zone. There's little to reveal on any of them except the new G'Zone looks much like its predecessor.

Although the information should be taken with a pinch of salt leaks from focus groups have yielded information that has turned out to be accurate in the past.

While the G'Zone wasn't the first Casio device to be carried by Verizon it was the first, and currently only, Android handset. Although it has lingered at the low-end of the market if the news from the focus group is real then Casio looks to be changing its tack completely with a superphone that sounds like it could give the best Android devices out there a run for their money.
