While Windows Phone fans may still have Lumia 900 shaped stars in their eyes Nokia isn't the only phone maker to release its first WP7 devices this year and ZTE is joining in too with the Tania, in the UK at least. Although it doesn't have the allure of the Finnish handset it combines some average specs with a reasonably big display to make for an affordable device.
Under a 4.3" display the Tania is packing a single-core 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. On the back there's a 5mp camera but nothing on the front for video calling. Externally it's not a bad looking device and isn't too chubby either at 10.7mm thick.
There's not a lot to recommend it over other Windows Phone devices apart from the size of the display and the prospect of just 4GB of internal without the option to expand it with an external memory card is a bit of a downside.
The ZTE Tania is being called the most affordable Windows Phone with a 4.3" display on the market and is set to be sold on a contract for between £10 - £20 a month. Outlets such as Brightpoint, Virgin Media and Go Mobile will be selling the device and it's expect to be available off contract for about £250 ($386).
"We're delighted to be working with Microsoft and as a key partner will support the industry forecasted growth on this exciting new platform with both the ZTE Tania and in the future a growing range of devices" said Mr Wu Sa from ZTE UK.

Although it might not be the household name that Samsung or Apple is last year it was reported that ZTE had become the fourth largest phone vendor in the world after shipping 19.1m units in the third quarter. While its devices normally see the light of day without the ZTE branding the Tania is its latest attempt to make a name for itself with its own-branded handsets.
