Details of the BlackBerry London first appeared back in November where they were leaked along with an image of the device. Initially the handset had a form factor more like the Porsche design P'9981 with angular edges and a silver top and bottom. However the latest image to hit the web indicates that RIM is now opting for styling which more closely resembles its PlayBook tablet.
As well as looking radically different for a handset with the BlackBerry label the hardware isn't what you'd expect from the brand either. Ditching the traditionally modest specs the London is said to contain a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. In addition to this it may also be packing a rear-facing 8mp camera as a well a front-facing 2mp one for video calling. As before it looks set to join the ranks of the Samsung Galaxy S II and numerous other handsets which offer a large display with a minimal amount of thickness.
Not only could it be the first BlackBerry to come loaded with some seriously impressive hardware it's also set to be the first to feature the BlackBerry 10 OS. The handset in the image is shown to be running the new OS though and while it doesn't give much away the information by the side of it claims there will be a "dramatic shift in UI experience".
There's not much to go on as far as a release date is concerned and speculation still pegs the release of the handset for Q3 this year. One rumour suggests that the London will perhaps not unsurprisingly be a UK only released with two similar handsets known as the Laguna and Lisbon in development for the US.
The latest leak adds more credibility to the existence of this device that would be a step in the right direction for RIM which is struggling to keep up with its Android and iOS rivals.
