The Droid 4 looks like it's finally getting ready to arrive as Droid Life has it on good authority that the handset now has a release date of February 9. Previous rumours pegged the phone to be arriving on February 2 but unless Verizon has a sudden announcement in store it looks like a no-show. Rumoured to be arriving at the carrier since December and on show at CES last month the device has been preceded by several new additions to the Droid line including the Droid Razr, Razr Maxx and Xyboards.

Key specs of the Droid 4 include a 4" display, dual-core 1.2GHz processor and 16GB of internal storage. As well connectivity on Verizon's LTE network it will also be its first 4G device to offer overseas roaming capabilities. The handset is going to ship with Android 2.3 installed but an upgrade to 4.0 is promised for the future.

In addition to the release date the latest rumour supports a recently leaked MAP list which suggested it was going to launch for a reduced price of $199.99 on a two-year contract. This would be inline with the recent Razr reduction and is plausible given that the Droid 4 is basically the same device but with a slideout keyboard. It's also been confirmed by other sources to be launching for that price.

It certainly seems like a better strategy than the Razr which launched for $299 but had $100 slashed off that figure when the Droid Razr Maxx, which boasts the same features but a much longer 21 hours of battery life, was released not long after. If the carrier does suddenly to decide to release a Maxx version of the Droid 4 at a later date then at least anyone who purchases it next week won't feel so cheated.
