This week has already seen Samsung make the Galaxy S Advance official and now it looks like it has another slightly improved version of a Galaxy handset in store. A device known as the Galaxy S2+ has shown up in an An3DBenchXL test indicating a slightly faster version of Samsung's star handset is on the way. It's not the first time it's released an upgraded handset and slapped a plus sign on to the end of its name, the Galaxy S has already been boosted and rebranded to the Galaxy S+.
If there is a Galaxy S2 in the works then its main improvement, according to the benchmark, is the dual-core 1.5GHz processor that it's said to be packing. Aside from that it looks like all the other key specs will remain the same. This would be very much in the same vein as the improvements made to the Galaxy S which got bumped from a single-core 1GHz processor to a 1.4GHz chip. The benchmark indicates that it's still running Android 2.3.4 so it doesn't look like Android 4.0 is going to come pre-installed.
That extra bit of speed isn't to be sniffed at but won't make up for the lack of the Galaxy SIII at the Mobile World Congress. It was recently confirmed that the upcoming quad-core device won't make it to the show this month and will instead be officially revealed at some point closer to its mid-year release. The news follows similar reports that a hardware upgrade to the Galaxy Nexus is on the way.
There's some debate over what kind of chip each device is going to be packing and the refreshed Galaxy S2 could offer the TI OMAP 4470 or Samsung's own Exynos 4212 processor. Of course such benchmarks aren't always reliable but if the Galaxy S2+ is real then there's a good chance of it being announced at the MWC.
