Huawei Honor has its eyes on AT&T

Passes through FCC with approval for carrier's bands

The Huawei Honor is already available in the US from carrier Cricket (as the Mercury) but according to a recent FCC filing it may be getting ready to grace AT&T with its presence. The filing shows the phone has been given the ok for AT&T's 3G and HSPA+ bands. It might seem odd for one of the big four to opt for a handset that was released with Cricket back in December but it's certainly a possibility. While the mention of the Huawei brand doesn't conjour images of superfast smartphones the Honor does have one impressive feature and that's its three day battery life.

Given that Verizon have made a big fuss recently over releasing the Droid Razr Maxx with its 21 hours of talk time before the battery dies AT&T might be looking to offer its own long-life alternative.

With a 4" display, 1.4GHz processor and 1GB of RAM the specs aren't terrible and could make for an appealing affordable option at the carrier. As well as this it also comes with 512MB of RAM, an 8mp rear-facing camera and front-facing 2mp camera.

The phone ships with Android 2.3 pre-installed but Huawei recently released a Chinese language beta version of Ice Cream Sandwich for the handset which can be manually installed.

When released at Cricket it went on sale for $249 but it's hard to imagine AT&T offering it for that much given the more impressive offerings the carrier already has for a similar price. The FCC filing isn't a confirmation that the device is going to be landing at the carrier but if it is then it's likely an officially announcement won't be far off.

Although the Huawei name is more closely associated with budget handsets the Honor is not a bad offering and CES saw the company announce the dual-core Ascend P1. In addition to this there have been rumours of a quad-core handset also coming from its direction making 2012 look like an interesting year for Huawei.
