Anyone after a tablet with mobile internet connectivity which isn't going to break the bank will have an extra one to choose from this weekend as Sprint has confirmed the release date for the ZTE Optik slate. Offering reasonable specs for a reasonable price on a contract the main downside will be its lack of 4G connectivity, meaning anyone who buys it will have to make to with 3G speeds for length of their contract.

Underneath its 7" display there's a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. As well as this it also includes a rear-facing 5mp camera and front-facing 2mp camera for video calling. Anyone hoping for this to be a budget option with Ice Cream Sandwich installed will have to look elsewhere as the Optik only offers Android 2.3. It's also slightly chunky for a new tablet these days at 12.7mm thick. Powering it all is a 4000mAh battery and there's a microSD card slot to expand the memory.

The Optik is going to be available from Sprint this Sunday February 5 and will cost $99.99 on a two-year contract. Four plans are being offered by the carrier designed specifically for tablets which start at $19.99 for 1GB of data going up to $79.99 for 12GB of data. The tablet can also be used as a mobile hotspot for up to five devices but the privilege will cost an extra $29.99 a month. The tablet can also be purchased contract-free for $349.99.

Sprint isn't the only one that's going to be selling a ZTE slate and a tablet currently known as the V66 has recently been spotted for Verizon. It features the same basic specs and will probably launch for the same price.

ZTEOptik

"Paired with Sprint's cutting-edge network, ZTE Optik provides an exceptional user experience to consumers who demand affordability, flexibility and mobility in one package" said Lixin Cheng from ZTE.

It may be affordable but it's a lot of average specs to be stuck with for two-years and externally it isn't going to win any beauty contests.
