What it's going to be called is still a mystery but it now looks fairly certain that the next version of the iPad is set to be launched in the first week of March. All Things D claims that this is when Apple plans to reveal it, at one of its trademark events in San Francisco, but gives no indication of when it should be available to purchase. Hopefully it will turn out to be true and the name will finally be confirmed as at the moment the monikers iPad 2S, iPad 2 HD and iPad 3 are still floating around.
Meanwhile other sources are saying that Apple is in "crunch mode" preparing the apps that are best going to show off the tablet's new features. The specs may be as unconfirmed as ever but it's now widely believed that the main new feature the next generation tablet is bringing to the table is a higher resolution screen. It's quite likely to be a retina display or at least something close to one. The apps chosen for the event should demonstrate its display prowess, a fact which is backed up by sources over at The Next Web.
If it does comes with a retina display panel it will be boasting an impressive resolution of 2048x1536 pixels. The rumour mill also has it that powering the tablet features a quad-core ARM Cortex A9 processor and possibly a larger battery. Something which seems like a certainty is the inclusion of Siri and there's always the possibility of 4G LTE connectivity as well.
Further evidence to suggest these rumoured specs are true comes from the New York Times this week. It quotes an unnamed Apple employee who claims that the tablet has a "truly amazing screen" as well as a faster processor.
With speculation reaching fever pitch and an increased number of leaks recently it seems inevitable that folks over at Cupertino are going to be revealing something soon.
