Following in the footsteps of the Samsung update rumours and HTC's upgrade plans which have also been revealed this week Motorola has made the details of its own Android 4.0 upgrade plans official. The announcement includes details of both smartphones and tablets and features a comprehensive list though dates for a lot of the phone's upgrades have yet to be confirmed.
Interestingly Motorola's newest devices will be the ones getting the update last. The Droid Razr, Razr Maxx, Droid 4, Bionic, Xyboards and 4G version of the Xoom have been confirmed to be getting it but when they'll get it hasn't. Meanwhile the flagship devices of last year which include the Atrix 2, Photon 4G, and Xoom tablets among others have already started to receive the latest version of Android.
The Xoom was the first to get it back in January with the rollout across the rest of the devices continuing until Q3 this year.
While this will be good news for most Motorola owners there are several handset which it has been confirmed aren't getting the upgrade and will stay at their current version of Android. Among the devices left behind are the Defy Mini, Defy+, Defy Milestone 2 and Milestone. There are also several handsets in the evaluation and planning stage of its upgrade cycle which might not make the final cut.
"We are working very closely with Google and our carrier partners to bring you the best possible experience on each of our devices powered by Android" said Motorola in the announcement.
For a more detailed rundown of the company's plans and to see which handsets won't be getting Ice Cream Sandwich Motorola offers a full list and breakdown by region on its website. However for those who own a high-end Motorola device chances are they will be able to enjoy ICS by Q3 at the latest barring any delays.
