This week has already seen LG take the covers off its Optimus Vu handset and now the Optimus LTE Tag has been confirmed to be joining the phone-maker's high-end lineup. The new device is an update of the original Optimus LTE with a slight downgrade in the screen department and the addition of a "tag" feature which uses NFC to instantly change the phone's settings when it's swiped over a special tag or sticker.
Unlike the original Optimus LTE the Tag version has a 4.3" WVGA screen rather than a HD one. Aside from this it still packs an impressive set of features including a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. There's a 5mp camera on the back as well as a front-facing 1.3mp one and powering it all is a 1700mAh battery. Like the Vu it's set to ship with Android 2.3 installed, at least in Korea, with an update to 4.0 due to be available later on.
As ever Korea will be getting this one before anyone else, in white no less, and LG is keeping tight lipped on its availability in other markets. However given the original Optimus LTE's popularity it's only a matter of time before it starts to be rolled out world wide. Back in January LG made the customary announcement for a handset passing the one million sales market where it claimed that 600,000 units of the device were sold in South Korea in its first three months on sale.
Although the gimmicky tag feature might not be a huge selling point, especially with the trade for the lesser screen, it's not the only one who's thought of it and Sony offers a similar feature with its Xperia S handset. When exactly it's going to be available in Korea hasn't been confirmed yet but whenever it is there's good chance it won't be too long after that the US gets it.
