Toshiba's Excite 10 is the company's most promising tablet yet and this week it has been released in the US where it can be purchased from Amazon for $449.99. The release follows the announcement of the tablet last month when it was revealed alongside a 7.7" model as well as an usually large variant with a 13.3" display.
Key specs include a 10.1" display, a 1.2GHz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor and 1GB of RAM. The $449.99 price tag is for the Wi-Fi only 16GB model but 32GB and 64GB versions are also available. On the rear there's a 5mp camera joined by a 2mp one on the front and it's all powered by a battery which is said to offer 10 hours of battery life.
It's a pretty decent line-up of features and there's no doubt that for the price its a pretty competitive offering. While it lacks the buzz that surround tablets like the also well spec'd Transformer range it compares quite well to Asus's devices and is worthy to be put on a shortlist of slates that offer high-end specs with a price-tag that avoids being too high itself.
This year has already seen Toshiba bring the Excite 10LE to the US but the Excite 10 is a more reasonably priced 10" slate. It's also the latest in a line of Toshiba tablets which have paved a bumpy road for the company with its first offering, the AT200, being badly received and the Thrive being criticised for its chunkiness.
The tablet is landing on schedule which means that anyone who wants the smaller 7.7" model or the gargantuan 13.3" slate can expect to pick them up sometime around June 10. Aside from the 16GB model both the 32GB and 64GB can be purchased now for $529.99 and $649.99 respectively.
