This week has already seen Sprint's HTC Evo 4G LTE handset go up for pre-order and now the carrier has confirmed the rumoured release date of May 18. There's already a lot of positive buzz surrounding the handset and the latest Evo looks set to carry continue the brand's popularity with Sprint customers. In addition to boasting a list of specs that place it firmly at the higher-end of the scale it also sees the return of the Evo's famous kickstand, and with its large screen it should certainly be a welcome feature.
Key features of the Evo 4G LTE include a 4.7" display, 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor by Qualcomm and 1GB of RAM. On the back there's an 8mp camera which is joined by a 1.3mp front-facing one and powering it all is a hefty 2000mAh battery which should make for an enviable amount of time before a recharge is needed. Ice Cream Sandwich is also on the menu right out of the box as is 16GB of internal storage.
In addition to this the new Evo is the first handset from the carrier to offer enhanced security features known as "Sprint Professional Grade" and comes with with Beats Audio integration for superior sound.
While the press release is keen to point how much praise the device has been receiving it's less eager to highlight the fact that it won't be able to take advantage of Sprint's 4G LTE network from its launch. However Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City and San Antonio should be able to enjoy those "4G LTE and enhanced 3G" speeds "mid-year".

For anyone hoping to pick up the handset Sprint has confirmed a price of $199.99 on a two-year contract.
