It's been no secret that Dell is planning a Windows 8 tablet to compliment the release of the new OS later this year, but exactly what users can expect to find under the hood has been a bit more of a mystery. Now thanks to Neowin.net some light has been shed on the finer details of its internal hardware. What is revealed is a device which has a reasonable list of specs but, like the Windows Phone handsets out there, one that doesn't offer hardware to match blow for blow the best of the Android devices out there.
According to the leaked internal document Dell's first foray into the world of Windows 8 is going to offer up an Intel Clover Trail dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD drive. On top of it all is a 10.1" display with a 1366x768 resolution and there's the promise of a removable battery with the choice of a unit which will offer 6-8hrs of battery life or a larger one that should deliver 10-12hrs of usage before it needs recharging.
While Dell is better known for its Android devices there's no doubt Windows is more familiar territory for it. While it failed to impress consumers with its Windows Phones 7 handsets it makes more sense that it will fare better with personal computing devices rather than more mobile ones. It isn't the only prominent PC maker to declare its intentions with the new version of the OS and it was revealed back in April that HP has similar plans.
There's no word on how much this tablet is going to cost yet but it's expected to be released at some point in the Fall, possibly around November. While Dell's presence has been minimal in the tablet marketplace it's been no stranger to Windows tablets and its Windows 7 running Latitude ST is set to be coming to soon to its website with a price tag of £479. According to the leaked document the Windows 8 slate is going to look very similar to the Latitude ST.
