Source of previous Windows Phone 8 rumours WPDang has today posted images of a device which could be a glimpse at one of Nokia's first to run the next version of Microsoft's mobile OS. Even the site itself is unsure whether it's a genuine leak of a WP8 handset or an existing Lumia running Windows 7.8 but there are a few clues to suggest that it is the real deal.
Firstly "proto.nokia.com" has been etched on to the bottom of the device, indicating it's a prototype, and secondly the handset has a yellow case, a colour scheme which has not yet made it to market (or been rumoured to be heading to market). The evidence is hardly conclusive but it's enough to not make it look like an obvious fake.
Even if it is a fake it does a raise a good point, when Nokia does make the devices official are they really going to look that different from the likes of the Lumia 800 and 900. Names of possible new WP8 Lumias which have been spotted shows them following the same naming convention so it's not that much of leap not to expect a radical redesign.
While the Lumia 800 and 900 might not have set the mobile world on fire they certainly impressed a few people with their unique pillow-like design and cheerful colour schemes. It would make sense for Nokia to capitalise on this aspect of its flagship Lumia devices in the future.
Whatever happens it shouldn't be long until there are some more official leaks or failing that an official announcement from Nokia. According to Bloomberg recently, and before that WPDang, Nokia is going to use its World Event in September to take the covers off what it has in store for Windows Phone 8.
