Sony has already been pretty active this year following its split from Ericsson but if images of two new devices in the wild, in addition to some specs, are anything to go by it's not going to be slowing down soon. The unannounced handsets in question are the Xperia LT29i Hayabusa and the ST21i Tapioca. Sony doesn't appear to be straying too far from the Xperia formula it has established for 2012 but the handsets suggest it's going to be expanding the range, continuing to offer competitive high-end devices while delivering a more affordable option as well.
First up is the Hayabusa which looks much like the Xperia Ion and is said to be packing a 4.55" HD display, Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 Pro processor and an Adreno 320GPU. In addition to this it also promises a rear-facing 13mp camera with HDR video, 2,200mAh battery and a body that's 7mm thin. According to the source it won't be long before its official and is expected to be announced in June with a possible release in July.
The second phone to leak is the Tapioca which appears to have more modest specs and seems destined to be branded as a budget handset. It features a 3.2" display, 800MHz processor and 512MB of RAM. On the back there's a not so impressive 3mp camera and there's no word on when it will be getting an official launch.
Each device represents a different end of the spectrum but that doesn't mean they won't both be getting the latest version of Android and the Hayabusa and Tapioca are set to come with ICS pre-installed.
Sony has already released, and is set to release, some solid devices this year and these latest leaks are evidence that it's a trend that's going to continue. A recently published patent shows that Sony might be thinking of revisiting the PlayStation phone however these Xperia devices should prove a better bet in terms of gaining more consumers.
