Acer reveals quad-core slate for less than $200
Specs are fairly average but the price excites

Many have tried, and promise to try, their hand at delivering an affordable tablet that can offer some reasonable hardware as well but apart from Amazon no tablet maker has managed to make much of an impact on that segment of the market. However if Acer has anything do with it this could change as its Iconia Tab A110 promises to deliver both in terms of its price tag and its list of specs.
This week the company has been showing off the A110 at Computex Taipei revealing a very promising slate which will cost less than $200. For that low price the tablet is set to be packing a 7" display, 1.2GHz quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. In addition to this it's also going to feature 8GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot for expansion and a 2mp HD webcam. While it's mostly average the standout spec here is clearly the quad-core processor in such an affordable device.
At the moment there are no exact details on a release date or price, the lower than $200 dollar price is the word of an Acer rep reported by The Verge, but it doesn't look like it will be too long before these details are officially announced. Also on show was the Iconia Tab A210 which boasts similar specs and should be a bit more expensive given its 10" display.
Acer's unveiling of the tablet follows on from the announcement by Nvidia that it plans to use its new Kai platform to allow manufacturers to bring quad-core tablets to market that, like the new Tab, will cost around $199. It's positive news for tablet buyers who don't want to pay out for the likes of a new iPad, or opt for the Kindle Fire, and is a bit more definite than the much rumoured Asus/Google Nexus slate.
