After months of a steadily increasing flow of rumours it now looks like the iPad mini is ready to get official as Apple has issued invitations to an event on October 23. The colourful invite simply says "We've got a little more to show you" and considering the use of words "a little more" it's looking inevitable that the event is going to be centred around the iPad's baby brother.
Although up until now the only spec that seemed set in stone was the 7.85" display Apple Insider is reporting that the tablet is set to come in an impressive 12 variations. These will include versions with 8GB, 16GB, 32B and 64GB of internal storage with an option of Wi-Fi only, Wi-Fi and 3G and Wi-Fi, 3G and LTE connectivity. In addition to this it's also said that there will be a choice of getting the tablet in black or white.
Speculation still has it that the entry-level model is going to cost $249 meaning potential tablet buyers are going to be spoilt for choice this holiday season with quality tablets at every price point, each with something different to recommend them.
Less interestingly the company is also rumoured to be revealing a 13" MacBook Pro with a retina display and updated regular iPads with the new lightning connector at the event.
The timing of the announcement seems to be set deliberately close to the launch of Microsoft's Surface tablet and whether or not the device is a sign of Apple following rather than leading the iPad mini is destined to be hugely successful and dent Microsoft's ego.
Assuming Apple stays true to its regular scheduling then anyone looking forward to the company's "just right" device should expect to see it go on sale November 2.
