It has been made official that the Samsung Intensity II will launch on Verizon, available online today and in a few weeks from Verizon Wireless Communication Stores. A feature phone and partly made from recycled plastic the Intensity II has both a full slide-out QWERTY and an external keypad.

The phone is designed as much for people who are environmentally conscious as it is for those looking for a messaging phone. The battery cover on the back of the case is made from 35% recycled plastic (waterbottles and other polycarbonate materials) and there's an eco-calculator on the phone which can be used to determine your cars fuel-efficiency and carbon emissions. In an effort to make the product even more environmentally friendly the box is made from 60% recycled paper and the manual which is printed with Soy Ink 20% recycled paper.

The key features are the full slide-out QWERTY with external keypad, 1.3mp camera which isn't that impressive but does have night vision mode and a 2.2" QVGA screen. It also features a built-in music player with a MicroSD Card slot expandable up to 32GB.

"We're excited about the Intensity II launch because a major part of Verizon's sustainability strategy is providing products that utilize post-consumer materials" said Verizon's chief sustainability officer Jim Gowen.

The handset will cost $49.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate though the user will be tied to a 2-year customer agreement. Two years is a long time to be tied to a feature phone which isn't the prettiest of the bunch, nor the most impressive, though it might win over a few people with its eco-values. It at least improves up on the Samsung Intensity in some respects with a higher resolution screen and the expandable memory for storing music, though the original looks better than the Intensity II's cartoonish peanut-like appearance.
